freshwater’s fall writing circle IS A GUIDED ONLINE WRITING CIRCLE DESIGNED TO ROOT YOUR WORK IN craft & COMMUNITY.

During fall, we recommit to the systems we know feed us and sustain us—we make soup, take long walks, watch the leaves turn, and give thanks for our harvests. Similarly, as writers, we might return to the routines and practices that keep us grounded and creative. For many of us at Freshwater Writing, that means close study of craft, putting pen to paper regularly, and sharing our work with trusted friends.

Just as the birds and insects follow their instincts and look for environmental signs on their fall migrations, let’s join together to follow and refine our own writerly wisdom. In this circle, we will begin each two-hour session in close study of exemplary writing, focusing on craft and structure. Next, Chelsea will offer thoughtful prompts, and then, with videos on or off, we will commit to the real work—we will write new drafts every week. Finally, we will end each session by responding to one another’s work submitted for feedback. Staying grounded in generosity and curiosity, we will offer specific observations to help each other see what our work is and what it might become. *The circle will be capped to allow every writer to receive feedback on their work at least twice.*

Freshwater’s Fall Writing Circle is for writers of all levels.

WHEN: Fridays, Sept. 25 - Nov. 13, 10:00am-12:00pm CST (no class Oct. 16)

WHERE: Zoom (You will receive Zoom information prior to the first meeting. All sessions will be recorded, so if you have to miss one or more, you will still have access to the materials, discussion, and prompts.)

INVESTMENT: $360 (If you prefer a payment schedule, we’re happy to set one up! Simply contact Chelsea. A partial scholarship is available: contact Chelsea to inquire—no need to apply or disclose any financial information, though priority is given to writers who have not received a Freshwater Writing scholarship in the past.)
